Marble Shower Curb Crack Repair Fixing Rust Damage from Iron Inside Marble
In this video, you’re looking at a marble shower curb that developed a deep crack and groove. This type of damage is often caused by iron naturally embedded within the marble. Over time, water seeps into the stone and reaches the iron, causing it to rust. As the iron oxidizes, it expands—creating internal pressure that leads to cracking and separation within the marble.
As you can see, the result is a noticeable groove and structural damage to the surface.
To restore the area, we carefully filled the groove using a high-quality marble epoxy. One of the most critical parts of this process is color matching. Achieving a seamless repair requires skill, experience, and an artistic eye to blend the repair perfectly with the original marble.
It’s important to understand that the permanent solution in cases like this is full replacement of the damaged marble. However, in this situation, the client preferred to avoid the cost and disruption of replacement and chose a more practical repair option.
After filling the damaged area, we professionally polished the surface to ensure a smooth, even finish. The result is a surface that feels natural underfoot, with no noticeable ridge or groove when stepped on.
That said, this type of repair is not a permanent fix for the underlying issue. There is always a possibility that the crack could reopen in the future due to the original cause. We clearly explained this to the client, and based on that understanding, this was the solution she chose.
